Beach holidays in Marmaris

The bay in which the Turkish resort of Marmaris is located is very spacious. It measures 8 km by 3.5 km, so tourists have a wide choice of places to relax by the sea. The entrance to the bay closes the island, so strong waves and storms rarely reach the coast. The narrow sandy and pebble beaches of Marmaris stretch from the central part of the resort to the suburban village of Icmeler. The best of them were awarded the Blue Flag.

Private and public beaches... Almost all the beaches of Marmaris belong to 4-5 * hotels, which operate on an all-inclusive basis and are located on the first line of the sea. Travelers staying in apartments or small hotels with a pool can always sunbathe on the sandy municipal beaches.

Infrastructure... Some tourists like beaches with good infrastructure and entertainment. Others like to spend the day on a secluded wild shore. Connoisseurs of uncrowded places usually go to small sandy and pebble beaches located 1-1.5 km north of the village of Icmeler - they are considered the best in Marmaris.

Morals... Although Turkey is a Muslim country, Marmaris is known as a youth and hangout place. The morals in this resort are quite free, and no one condemns topless sunbathers on the beaches of Marmaris.

Central city beach

The free municipal beach of Marmaris is located near the Ataturk monument. It is covered with sand and is separated by a promenade from the rest of the city. The entrance to the water is shallow and consists of a mixture of fine pebbles and sand, so no special bathing shoes are required.

Lifeguards are constantly on duty at the city beach. Like other beaches in Marmaris, there are toilets and changing cabins. If you want to lie on a lounger and use an umbrella from the sun, you need to order something from the cafe. At the peak of the tourist season, the central beach becomes the most crowded in Marmaris, so the sea water and the coast are not very clean.

For tourists staying in the center of the resort, it is convenient to get to the municipal beach on foot. Those who settled in remote areas can get to the beach by shuttle buses - dolmus. Dolmushi of turquoise color go from Siteler to the center, from Armutalan - blue, from Icmeler - orange, from Yalanji boaz - pink, and from Beldibi - brown. Depending on the distance, the fare for an adult is 2-2.5 liras.

The most popular hotels are located along the city beach on the first line. Halici Hotel, Sunprime Beachfront, Marmaris Beach Hotel and some other hotels in Marmaris are all inclusive and have their own beaches.

Siteler Beach

The popular Siteler Beach is located in the southwestern part of the resort. The water in this area of Marmaris is very clear and can be seen to the very bottom. Siteler has an excellent beach infrastructure and is covered with small dark colored pebbles. It is equipped with showers, changing rooms and toilets.

Many tourists come here with their towels and sunbathe all day. On the free part of the Siteler beach, there are the same rules as on the central beach: in order to use the sun loungers, you need to make an order at local cafes.

For safety, warning posters are installed along the coast. Tourists are asked not to jump into the sea from piers and concrete platforms, not to leave children alone by the water, not to swim immediately after a long sunburn and while intoxicated, and also to throw garbage in containers.

From the central part of the resort development, people come to the Siteler beach by taxi or shuttle bus. A series of 4-5 * hotels stretch along the beach strip. D-Resort Grand Azur Marmaris, Pasa Beach Hotel, Golden Rock Beach and Cettia Beach Resort have the best and most well maintained private beach areas in Marmaris.

Icmeler beach

The best beach in Marmaris is located near the village of Icmeler, 8 km from the central part of the Turkish resort. Ichmeler stretches along a shallow bay, which is divided by the Kyz-Kumu sand spit. Translated from Turkish, its name means "girlish sand". Kyz-Kumu was formed as a result of underwater currents, but tourists like the legend that a long sandy spit was poured by a princess who fled from pirates.

The coastal strip consists of a mixture of pebbles and sand, the entrance to the water is shallow and in many places is covered with fine light sand. The sea in Icmeler is very clear. At the southern end of the beach, there is a pier where tourist ships and private yachts dock.

The sun loungers on this beach in Marmaris are free, so they try to take them in the morning. You do not need to pay for the use of showers and changing rooms either.

The area around Icmeler is popular with divers. In the warm season, many come here to dive and see the fragments of antique amphorae lying on the seabed. One of the popular dive clubs operates near the Yazikh rock. Next to it there are dive sites with diving depths from 3 to 30 m.

Shuttle buses and taxis go from the center of Marmaris to Icmeler. A series of cafes and eateries stretch along the village beach, and behind them are hotels.
