We returned from another working vacation and decided to write a review for the Santa Grand Lai Chun Yuen 3 stars hotel in Singapore. A good place not only to stay for work, but also for a standard two week vacation.
Where to stay cheap in Singapore?
Now is the time to write about our best accommodation in Singapore - Hotel Santa Grand Lai Chun Yuen: prices, where to book, prices, room description and photos.
The hotel was chosen according to the principle - where to stay inexpensively in Singapore by local standards. We were not planning to be at the hotel during the day, we were not going to spend time there whiling away the hot Singaporean evenings, we just had to come, fall and sleep.
I definitely didn’t want to share the room with cockroaches and bedbugs, so I was not so biased when choosing a hotel, but still responsibly.
The first thing I paid attention to was the location of the hotel on the city map. There should be a metro station nearby, a taxi stand, a place for a quick bite to eat, and most importantly, proximity to the city center.
It makes no sense to stay in Singapore hotels on the outskirts when you have an abundant excursion program and need to save time on travel.
Immediately dismissed the Indian quarter. May the idiaphiles and Hindu lovers forgive me, in Sri Lanka I saw enough of both Indians and dirt for the rest of my life. Although in Singapore, like in Kuala Lumpur, the Hindus are civilized, take care of themselves and do not litter so much, they did not want to live side by side with them.
Having directed my gaze towards Chinatown, after reading reviews, looking at city maps, I stayed at the Santa Grand Hotel Lai Chun Yuen 3 *.
Main pluses:
- It is located almost in the center.
- Chinotown metro station is just five minutes walk.
- Taxi stand nearby.
- Low cost of living (for Singapore).
- Quite acceptable reviews and a rating above 7 points on the booking.
- Possibility of cheap shopping (quality suffers. Yes)
Cons:
- Tiny rooms, many without windows and even less balconies.
- Hindus. Yes, it came as a complete surprise to me, but returning from the casino, we found ourselves right in the center of the procession of Indians returning home from the temple. Many of them slept on the sidewalk and had to step over them when moving. To be fair, I will say that they did not cause much discomfort, did not bother with questions and conversations for life, except for one case, I will write about it in the next part.
Santa Grand Lai Chun Yuen, review
The whole hotel is made in red colors, there is a red carpet, red velvet on the floor, red lanterns on the walls, the walls themselves are also red. Red kingdom.
Entrance to the hotel. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that there are several entrances to the hotel and you can enter it from several streets. This is all one hotel, only it is located in different buildings.
Reception. The hotel guests are mostly Europeans.
Escalator to the second floor. The motion sensor saves electricity. You come up to the escalator, it starts moving, you go away - it stops.
Red corridors with paintings on the red walls and red doors of the rooms.
We go into the room, the number is tiny. In the corridor there is a wardrobe with a safe, a door to a combined bathroom.
... and the bed itself. My colleague and I had to take one bed for two, this room was cheaper than a room with two beds. On this bed, two men weighing 90 kg each, quite comfortably fit in and slept without touching each other.
There is a flat-screen TV at my feet on the wall, there are no Russian channels.
Now the bathroom. I will dwell on it in more detail, since I cannot but share its comic performance.
Sink, toilet, shower on the wall with a hole in the floor. Everything seems to be familiar to Asia, but pay attention to the distance from the toilet to the wall. Probably, when they built this way, they did not think that healthy white people taller than 180 cm would live in the hotel.
If you want to sit on the toilet as an eagle in order to carry out a comparative analysis of living standards in Singapore and Russia, or just read a volume or two of Tolstoy, your knees will rest against the wall and it will not be possible to sit down.
We are smart people, we understand that for a comfortable fit we need to spread our knees, but how can we do this without taking off our underwear? And so it turns out, I wanted to think about my Motherland, went to the toilet, hung my underwear on a hook.
A bonus is our heading - where to relax in Singapore, what are the prices, what to eat, and the nuances of travel planning.

What's next to the hotel?
Street view on the right. If you reach the yellow sign and turn right, there will be a 7/11 store.
Near the Santa Grand Lai Chun Yuen Hotel, closer to 10 am, a brisk trade in inexpensive Chinese clothes and souvenirs begins. Peak trade 7-10 pm.
Our impression is that there is absolutely nothing to do in the hotel itself, just for an overnight stay. If during the day you will wander around the sights and from the hotel you only need to spend the night more or less comfortably, then opt for this hotel.
Not sure where to stay cheap in Singapore? This accommodation option will be quite acceptable.
