The monuments of Voronezh illustrate the main pages of the history of the city. In terms of choosing authors for a particular idea, the authorities often turn to trusted sculptors. Many projects are supervised by members of the Dikunov family. They work both in the classical style, creating a monument to St. Mitrofan of Voronezh, and in the unusual, which can be seen on the example of "Kitten from Lizyukov Street".
Another distinctive feature of the city: careful choice of location. So the sculptural composition "The Seller and the Buyer" is located at the market, "Voronezh - Homeland of the Airborne Forces" - at the site of the landing of the first detachment of paratroopers. From the military monuments, of which there are many in the city, it is worth highlighting the "Rotunda". This reinforced concrete frame used to be a hospital in the past. It was left as a reminder to the descendants of the Great Patriotic War and its consequences.
Historical and modern monuments of Voronezh
List of the most famous monuments and sculptures in the city.
Monument of Glory
The memorial complex was founded in 1967 on a mass grave left over from the times of the Great Patriotic War. About 10 thousand people are buried here. In 2009, the remains of General A. Lezyukov, who died near Voronezh in the summer of 1942, were reburied nearby. He was honored with a bust, as it were, mounted in a small slab. Unknown soldiers found in Lebyazhye were also transferred to the Glory Monument and marked with steles.
Rotunda
In the past it was a hospital building. During the Great Patriotic War it was destroyed. And in peacetime, they did not restore it. At first there was no money for extensive renovation work, and then they decided to leave the Rotunda as a memory of the hostilities in the city. At the moment, the ruins look neat and even well-groomed. Only the reinforced concrete frame has survived from the previous structure.
Kitten from Lizyukov street
A sculptural composition from the cartoon of the same name appeared in the city in 2003. Its creation was preceded by an open competition. The idea of high school student Irina Povarova won and was reworked by the family contract of the Dikunov sculptors. The monument is located in a busy place near the Mir cinema and periodically becomes a victim of vandals. Most often, a kitten's wire whiskers are broken off.
Monument to White Bim
Created based on the work of G. Troepolsky. He advised I. Dikunov and E. Pak during their work on the monument, but did not live to see the installation in 1998. The bim is predominantly made of stainless steel, with only one leg and one ear in bronze. The sculpture was cast in Penza with the money of architects. A dog waiting for its owner sits on a miniature platform on Revolution Avenue.
Monument to Peter I
The opening ceremony in 1860 was accompanied by artillery salvos. The sculptor A. Schwartz chose the uniform of the Preobrazhensky regiment for the emperor. Peter leans on the anchor with one hand and points the direction with the other. During the Great Patriotic War, the Germans got rid of the monument. It was recreated anew in peacetime, changing only two details: Peter became younger, and his caftan seemed to be developing in the wind.
Square of victory
Located on Revolution Avenue. The memorial is dedicated to the defenders of the city who fought in its vicinity in 1942-1943. The opening was combined with the celebration of the 30th Victory Day in 1973. There are 12 figures in the sculptural composition. Each represents a separate branch of the military. An eternal flame burns in front of the monument. There is also a wall with a list of all units that participated in the battles, and a stele.

Laid down on the square of the same name in 1939. The monument was cast in Leningrad, and then transported to Voronezh on a special platform. During the occupation, the sculpture created by N. Tomsky became the place of execution of the girl. She was hanged by the outstretched arm of the leader of the proletariat. After that, the monument was removed, and the pedestal was empty. For some time there was another statue, but already in 1950 the old Lenin was returned to the square.
"Voronezh - Homeland of the Airborne Forces"
In 1997, a granite block was installed at the landing site of the country's first airborne detachment. The attached plaque indicated the date of the commemorative event - 1930. And above them is a steel structure in the form of a parachute.
Monument to A. V. Koltsov
It became the second monument of the city, after the monument to Peter I. It was created by A. Triscorni according to the sketch by A. Cui. The opening took place in 1868. Monument to I.S.Nikitin
The square on which the monument is erected is also named after the poet. The author of the project is I. Shuklin. Since 1933, the monument has stood in the Koltsovsky park. It was decided to return it to its original place 40 years later.
Model of the ship "Mercury"
Although the creation of the fleet by Peter I is associated with St. Petersburg for the majority, the first ships were built in Voronezh. To mark the contribution of the city to this direction, in 1972 in the middle of the local reservoir a model of "Mercury" was installed on a high concrete pedestal. It was on such ships that Peter went to Azov. The plinth tends to tilt from year to year, reminiscent of the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Monument to A. Pushkin
A cozy square near the Opera and Ballet Theater was chosen as the place of its installation. The authors are the spouses-sculptors I. Dikunov and E. Pak. The opening in 1999 was timed to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the poet. The bronze bust is installed on a white pedestal, and around it there are columns that form a kind of gazebo. Behind Pushkin's back are lines from the poem "I have erected a monument not made by hands". The lanterns and the fence are made in the style of the Pushkin era.
Airplane-monument MiG-21
The plane itself was presented to the city by pilots Ivan Kozhedub and Georgy Beregovoy. The rector of the Kazan Church from the village of Konstantinovo came to illuminate the bust. It was there that the poet was baptized.
Monument to A.P. Platonov
It appeared in honor of the centenary of the birth of the writer on Revolution Avenue in 1999. The sculptors were I. The base and the pedestal have a "multilayer" structure. This creates the effect of movement, especially since Platonov himself is depicted walking in windy weather. In addition to the name of the writer, the phrase is engraved in the background: "... And the people are incomplete without me." It refers to the story "The Old Mechanic".
Monument to St. Mitrofan of Voronezh
The saint was a contemporary of Peter I. He was revered among the people, besides, Mitrofan blessed the creation of the Russian fleet. Monument to I. Bunin
Installed in the park of the same name in 1995. Burganov developed a project commissioned by the authorities. The Voronezh Bank became the sponsor of the creation of the monument. In the background is a small, uneven slab with the name of a literary man.
Monument to V. Vysotsky
The idea of erecting a monument to Vysotsky in Voronezh seemed controversial to many, because the musician had never been to the city. The place for the monument is also illogical - near the Institute of Physical Education. Previously, there was a sculptural group of gymnasts here, which collapsed for natural reasons. However, the competition was held, and the project of M. Dikunov won. The opening ceremony in 2009 was attended by guests of honor, including Vysotsky's son.
Monument to I. D. Chernyakhovsky
The sculpture has come a long way to the eponymous square of Voronezh, where it stands now. A monument designed by N. Tomsky in honor of the hero of the USSR, general and military leader was opened in Vilnius in 1950. In the early 90s, it was dismantled and transported to Voronezh. The opening took place in 2015 near the building of the Central Post Office.
"Seller and Buyer"
The cathedral market, located near the church of Xenia of St. Petersburg, acquired three permanent residents in 2009. The heroes of the sculptural composition are typical representatives of the buying and selling process. A peddler sells a shawl to a woman, and she admires in a mirror held by a tradeswoman. They are made of polymer concrete in full size and stand on a low pedestal. The monument is surrounded by a chain around it.
"Glory to Soviet Science"
The monument was created about 40 years ago. The bizarre stele looks like a Mobius strip or a DNA molecule. Located next to the Cathedral of the Annunciation. For example, the legend says that the workers who cast the monument at the Voronezh plant believed that they were making a real part for some kind of apparatus.
Monument to M.E. Pyatnitsky

It was installed in 2012 near the Government House. Nearby is an instructional poster telling you how to use this street art object so that vices go away once and for all.
Horse Yaryzh
It appeared in 2007 and belongs to the territory of the private hotel "Yar". A massive horse with rails in its teeth attracts the attention of everyone who is nearby. One of the reasons is his prominent genitals. Although the monument is already many years old, disputes about its expediency and even admissibility do not cease to this day. The monument is regularly included in the lists of the strangest monuments in the country and even in the world.
